Remember the cartoon character Wile E. Wile E.
Coyote would always chase the Roadrunner until he ended up running himself right off a cliff. Keeping cartoon physics in mind, had he continued moving forward, he would have safely reached the other side of the canyon. But his over-evaluation stopped him from progressing. In the world of education, we have a complicated issue around accountability. Parents, districts, and educators themselves want to know that the strategies being put in place are actually helping students to learn and keep up with the global market.
Now, wherever you stand on the state of testing in education, the reality of your classroom at present is that this data is being collected and it is being used to hold the schools accountable for their work. This might be the reality, but the truth is, you will never be happy teaching to a test — nor will you find much success. The test will change, so will the strategies, theories, funding, and demands — so where will that leave you?
Look at your content. Look at your standards. Look at your students — the actual ones in your classroom. And make the best decisions you can to help them to live happier, more fulfilling lives. In the meantime, always believe they can. There are absolutely schools where the staff spend much of their energy supporting and helping each other survive and grow—and hopefully you've found one.
Your job will be difficult at times. Venting can be an important tool when used wisely and with the right audience. But it can also lead to a poor work environment.
Lanes merge ahead
Ruminating on everything that is going wrong is not the same as a community of educators helping each other explore solutions. When negativity spreads throughout a high-stress community, it can feel comforting to know that others are going through it challenges too. If it does nothing more than make you feel underappreciated, underpaid, and overworked, it might be best to politely remove yourself from such conversations altogether.
No, really. Okay, so it might not be a happy hour. It might be the Christmas party, barbecue, or a summer gathering — but go. Or when Charlene reserves the last set of laptops.
Everyone struggles with classroom management. Student behavior is generational, environmental, and at times chaotic.
The unpredictable and sometimes seemingly irrational behavior exhibited by young students is simply a product of their biology — the frontal cortex, the area of the brain that controls reasoning and helps us think before we act, develops much later in our development. What does this mean for educators? Well, it means that it is always going to be complicated.

What a huge leap in self-advocacy! Do not underestimate the power of a moment. Celebrate them. Celebrate for yourself. Celebrate with the kids. Celebrate with the parents. Similarly, you will never truly know the impact those little moments will have on the life of another person. Good luck this year. It's going to be phenomenal. And thank you for all you do. Peak Oil Primer - Resilience
Even in cases where sensors are sufficiently small, smart, and inexpensive, challenges remain. Among them are power consumption, data security, and interoperability. Information that sensors create rarely attains its maximum value at the time and place of creation. The signals from sensors often must be communicated to other locations for aggregation and analysis.
This typically involves transmitting data over a network. For example, laptops, tablets, mobile phones, and other devices are often connected to a network, such as Wi-Fi, using a networking device in this case, a Wi-Fi router. The first step in the process of transferring data from one machine to another via a network is to uniquely identify each of the machines. Network protocols are a set of rules that define how computers identify each other. Broadly, network protocols can be proprietary or open. Proprietary network protocols allow identification and authorization to machines with specific hardware and software, making customization easier and allowing manufacturers to differentiate their offerings.
Open protocols allow interoperability across heterogeneous devices, thus improving scalability. IP was used to address computers before it began to be used to address other devices. About 4 billion IPv4 addresses out of its capacity of 6 billion addresses have already been used. IPv6 has superior scalability with approximately 3. Since the number of devices connected to the Internet is estimated to be 26 billion as of and projected to grow to 50 billion or more by , the adoption of IPv6 has served as a key enabler of the IoT.
Network technologies are classified broadly as wired or wireless. With the continuous movement of users and devices, wireless networks provide convenience through almost continuous connectivity, while wired connections are still useful for relatively more reliable, secured, and high-volume network routes. The choice of a network technology depends largely on the geographical range to be covered. When data have to be transferred over short distances for example, inside a room , devices can use wireless personal area network PAN technologies such as Bluetooth and ZigBee as well as wired connections through technologies such as Universal Serial Bus USB.
When data have to be transferred over a relatively bigger area such as an office, devices could use local area network LAN technologies. Examples of wired LAN technologies include Ethernet and fiber optics.
